Delete your DoSplit account or data
Last updated: May 23, 2026
Delete only some of your data (without closing your account)
You can clear specific pieces of data while keeping your DoSplit account active:
- Delete a single expense — open the group, swipe the expense left, and confirm. You can delete any expense you paid for, plus any expense inside a group you own.
- Leave a group — open the group menu (three dots, top right) and tap Leave Group. You stop seeing the group on your list and stop being able to add new entries; existing records under your name stay so the remaining members keep an accurate balance.
- Clear optional profile fields — Profile → Edit Profile lets you remove your phone number, swap your avatar, or update your email and name.
- Request a selective wipe by email — if you want a specific subset of records erased that isn't covered by the in-app options, email [email protected] from the address on your account and describe what you want removed. We respond within 45 days (extendable by another 45 days when reasonably necessary, with notice to you).
Records inside groups you don't own can be requested for deletion by email; we typically anonymise them (your name replaced with "Deleted user") rather than removing them outright, so the remaining members' history stays intact.
How to delete your account from the app
If you have the DoSplit app installed:
- Open DoSplit on your phone or at app.dosplit.com and sign in.
- Tap the Profile tab in the bottom navigation.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
- Read the warning, tap Continue, then type DELETE in the confirmation field and tap Schedule deletion. The double-confirm protects against accidental taps.
- You'll receive a confirmation email (when there's an email address on your account) and your account is scheduled for permanent deletion 30 days later.
During the 30-day grace period your account stays fully active. Signing back in (from any device) automatically cancels the pending deletion and returns the account to its normal state. You can also tap Cancel deletion on the banner that appears at the top of the app while a request is pending.
How to request deletion by email
If you cannot reach the in-app option (locked out, lost device, account verification trouble), email [email protected] from the address on your account. Include the words "delete my account" in the subject so the request is routed correctly. We respond within 45 days (extendable by another 45 days when reasonably necessary, with notice to you).
Heads-up if you own groups with other people
DoSplit's group records are owned by whoever created the group. If you delete your account while owning a group that other people have joined, the entire group is permanently deleted at the end of the 30-day grace period — including every expense, settlement, and activity entry inside it. The other members lose access to that shared history.
If you'd like your account removed but want a shared group to live on for the other members, please email [email protected] before scheduling the deletion so we can coordinate transferring ownership manually.
What gets deleted
Once the 30-day grace period elapses (or, for email requests, when we process the request) we permanently erase or anonymise the following:
- Your profile — name, email, optional phone, optional avatar, default currency, hashed password.
- Your authentication identifiers — the federated identifier from Apple or Google if you used either to sign in.
- Your active sessions and login history — refresh tokens are revoked and the Recent Visits list of past sign-ins is purged at the same time.
- Groups you own — the group itself plus every expense, settlement, and activity record inside it. This happens whether you were the only member or shared the group with others (see the heads-up above).
What may be retained (and for how long)
Because DoSplit's whole purpose is keeping a shared ledger of who paid for what, some records need to keep existing for the people you split with so their own history stays accurate. Specifically:
- Expense and settlement records inside groups you don't own — the entries themselves are kept so other members can still see the math, but your name is replaced with "Deleted user", your avatar is reset to a generic icon, and your email and phone are removed.
- Server logs — access timestamps in operational logs are retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse-prevention purposes, then deleted.
- Records we are legally required to keep — e.g. fraud-investigation records or anything covered by a binding legal request — only for as long as the law requires.
Reversing a deletion
Within the 30-day grace period: just sign back in at app.dosplit.com or in the mobile app. The pending deletion is cancelled automatically and a "Welcome back — your account deletion has been cancelled" notice confirms the rollback. You can also tap Cancel deletion on the banner that appears across the app while a deletion is scheduled.
After the grace period: deletion is final and your data cannot be restored. You can sign up again with the same email, but the new account will start empty.
